Since I’m not really a tech guy, who understands what the full process behind a post back URL is, I’m just going to explain it in layman’s terms the way I understand it.
Basically, the name really speaks for itself. When a conversion is triggered, the affiliate network will “Post Back” the information of the conversion to a specific URL. This is our Tracking URL within Voluum.
Voluum will then receive the information from the “Post Back” and this will be stored within our tracking tool. Here, we can see what offer triggered the conversions, what the Sub-ID is and what the payout is. That’s literally all I know about Post Back URL.Setting Up A Post Back URL[/su_heading]
There are 2 things you need to do to set this up correctly.
Step #1: Getting your post back link from your tracking tool
Voluum has made it extremely easy for us to do this. Once you’re logged into Voluum, just hit the “Settings” button and then click on “Setup”.
You should see something like this:
Step #2: Copy the link where it says “Postback URL” into your “Offer Settings” within your CPA Network.
So say you want to promote “Beyond Jobs” which is an offer from Peerfly.
What you need to do is paste the post back link that you have just copied into the offer’s Thank-You page.
You can do this by clicking on “Tool“, then click on “Setup Postback”
It should look something like this:
After that, a page should open where you can paste in your post back URL.
Just make sure that you use the right variables that are allowed (e.g. %offer%).
Different CPA networks have different variables that you can pass, so you need to make sure you use the right one, or else the information that the network sends to your tracking software will be all wrong.
Here is an example of Peerfly’s post back URL section:
As you can see, you would use the variables %commission% and %subid1% if you want to pass through the payout amount of the conversions and the sub-ID to your tracking software.
The final step to setting it all up is to “Test” that the post back link is installed correctly.
To do this, just hit the “Tools” button and click on “Test“.
Paste in your Voluum tracking link and everything should be successful. You should be able to see a conversion in your CPA network and also a conversion over at Voluum.
Keep in mind, that your affiliate manager can always help you with setting this up, so don’t be afraid to ask them directly.
